New Announcement: Equine Secrets Revealed in Fall 2012
“Mrs. H” as she is known by her friends and
admirers, is a distinguished horse of ‘a certain age’ who was quite the
galloping princess in her hay day. Mrs. HorseFeathers is a internationally acclaimed equultist® and is the Head Mare of the North American Alliance of Equine Equultists. This secret society has never been revealed to humans before - and Mrs. H. is experimenting with several human apprentices to see how it goes. If all goes well with their training, they will assist her to launch this amazing equine heritage to the public in Fall 2012.
Bio:
Born on a small ranchette in Central
California she trained as a working ranch horse. Deemed "too leggy"
for cattlework she was sold at the age of two to a buyer from
Metamora, Michigan, where she expanded her repertoire by competing in
the hunter/jumper circuit. After three years as a hunter/jumper she was
sold to a "Pony Clubber" from Virginia who ‘fell in love with her’ at a
local show. This owner added the routine of cross training and
dressage to Mrs. HorseFeather’s many abilities. Together they moved
into the rarified atmosphere of fox hunting. Life went on. At the age
of 18, Mrs. HorseFeather’s was again sold because she was thought to be
‘too old’ to go the distance in Cross Training.
The new owner (an adult amateur) returned Mrs. HorseFeather’s to her
native soil, and they competed in dressage through the 3rd level. When
Mrs. HorseFeather’s was 22 years old she retired from show life. During her mid-years she
settled down with a ‘reasonable’ Trakehner stallion and produced one
foal: Magic's Dream. She happily reports, “Magic's Dream is now 5 years old and a descent
dressage prospect.”
In addition to Mrs. Horsefeather's traditional life, she's lead a secret life full of intrigue, mystery and magic. A direct descendant of the ancient lineage of Equultists - The Grand Barb Stallions of Oujda, she is an equultist lineage carrier. She rose through the ranks, making great contributions to the field of equult magick. She was elected as the Head Mare of the North American Alliance (a lifetime positition) and also serves as the Head Mare of her local chapter, The Pacific Paladins.
Mrs. H is now engaged in preserving and leaving her
legacy for future generations, and solving the occasional mystery. Her
first book and assorted projects are due out in Fall 2012.
Mrs. HorseFeather’s Thoughts on Her Life:
"The rolling hills of California are beautiful to graze in, the wide open spaces allow me the privacy I need for training my apprentices and holding sacred rites. Born in the ranch ands,
living, sleeping and breathing trail dust was really too much!
Thankfully, my long legs came to my rescue and I was able to escape to
greener pastures. I still remember my days there with great fondness; eating
delicious Michigan apples straight from the maples
that flamed around me in glorious autumn colors. I think Fall is the best season, don’t you?”
But although my days were full, I longed for something more, and my
curiosity overcame me when I happened to meet a retired foxhunter at a
neighborhood barn. “Virginia is the only place to be!” he said
longingly, as he told he of the horns, the hounds and the chase. Soon,
I was completely under his spell, alas; he was unable to attend me due
to a prior surgery (sigh). Sadly he died in a mysterious accident, and
the stable felt too lonely to bear. I resolved to see for myself - the
‘spirit of the chase’- and with that glorious mission in mind, I urged
my owner to sell me. She did; to a woman I carefully chose using
my artful manipulation, flirtation, and such skills, as I possessed.
Imagine my delight to arrive at a 20-acre pasture in Charlottesville,
Virginia! The place was verdant with new grass and irrigated by a
crystal stream. A new run-in shed offered protection. Heaven! Sheer
heaven! I was introduced to two new stable-mates. I completely
swooned when I saw my stall: light, airy, thick with abundant bedding
and stuffed with fragrant hay in the mow, I nickered my appreciation.
I had arrived!
One of my stable-mates was a black Quarter Horse, Rhaven, whose long
and distinguished performance career was coming to an end. He came to
be my mentor, my compatriot, and my friend, and even now, I miss his
throaty snores in the dark of the evening, and hope that he still
dreams of ‘the hunt,’ and knows that I share them.
The other member of my small family was a Shetland pony, Too Too, who
was (and is) a severe gossip! He would tell me of the antics of the
woman who lived next door. She was a scandal, and was always getting
into some trouble or other with either her family or her writing. Her
cat, Sneaky Pie would visit and add his two paws to our afternoon
discussions. Likewise her overeager corgi.
I kept after my owner to keep to the standard set by the ponies at the
‘club,’ and submitted to the rigors of training with a minimum of fuss,
although the early morning hours grew a mite tiresome as the years
rolled on. Knowing I needed a change, I impressed upon her the
delights of a young gelding, and taking the hint she sold me to a
neighbor, an amateur rider who had been a ‘fence friend,’ for many
years. She was moving to California; I was returning home at last,
alas with Too Too who wheedled his way into my new life by guile and
deceit. For the record, I can too live without him! (harumph.)
Now, with my performance years out of the way and junior up and jumping
on his own; I was planning to lie about in the sun, until Melissa
talked me into passing on the good horse sense I’ve gathered in my
coast-to-coast travels. Melissa runs Hoof in Hand Equine Healing Services (www.hoofinhand.com) and she and I have gotten to know each other as she
massages my body and soothes my soul with her energy work and potions.
She has a knack of pulling stories out of the deepest places of one’s
heart!
Melissa convinced me to share my stories. For we both agree that if
it’s one thing that we can’t stand it’s the sad attempts to correct the
problems caused by incompatibility and negative emotions. You can lead
a horse to water…as they say, but I say…they still don’t have to like
you.
Together we have put together some little tools that I hope will offer
some help to the horse-challenged. All in all, I’m happy. Melissa
has good ‘horse sense’ and has worked faithfully to capture the
intricacies of my projects. I’m proud to have done my bit to prevent
my son fall into the wrong hands. Through Melissa, I am revealing my
secrets, hoping that it brings more harmony to the ring, understanding
to our many relationships, and always, more cookies to me!”

P.S. I just know that it was Too Too who pushed Melissa into my life,
although he stubbornly refuses to take credit. So until he does, I
won’t bother with saying “Thank You.”
